6th Grade Summer Academy

Summer Academy is an opportunity for incoming 6th grade students to have a smooth transition between elementary and middle school.

Summer Academy is August 8-10, from 8am-12pm each day. At Summer Academy, students will take baseline assessments in Language Arts and Math to inform teachers about student needs. Students will learn how to efficiently use Math and Literacy 360 boards. It is a great opportunity to learn “The Hill Way” when it comes to culture, rituals and routines. Most importantly, students will receive their lockers during Summer Academy and have time to practice opening them.

While Summer Academy is not mandatory, it is highly suggested as it helps our incoming 6th graders by alleviating a lot of the anxiety that comes with moving from one structure to another. If your student cannot make Summer Academy, they will still receive everything they need the first week of school.

You do not need to register for Summer Academy if your student is enrolled at Hill for next year, but an e-mail confirmation is appreciated.
In your e-mail, please include your student’s name and if they will miss any days of Summer Academy.

Please e-mail Ms. Edwards at Sable_Edwards@dpsk12.org if you have any other questions or concerns.
