Honors Probation

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Your daughter or son has just completed the first quarter of the 2013-14 school year in the Honors program. It is our goal to provide all students in the Honors program a comprehensive, standards-based education that provides in-depth, robust instruction in reading, writing, social studies, science, and math.

Students in our Honors program are expected to maintain scores of proficient or advanced on the DPS Interim Assessments and a 3.0 grade point average in their core classes (language arts, mathematics, social studies, science). Performance is reviewed at the end of each quarter to determine if a student will be placed on probation.

This letter is to inform you that your son or daughter is being placed on academic probation due to not meeting one or more of the above criteria–either a GPA below 3.0 and/or a score below proficient on the math, reading and/or writing fall DPS Interim Assessment. Your child will have until the end of the second quarter (December 20, 2013) to improve his/her academic achievement. If sufficient improvement is not attained, your student may be removed from one or more Honors classes.

Students exited from the Honors program will receive their new schedule upon return from winter break to begin the third quarter.  All schedule changes are dependent on class availability.  Students exited from the Honors program may re-qualify for the following school year, based on a review of their achievement on DPS Interim Assessments, results of TCAP and grade point average.

The staff at Hill Campus of Arts and Sciences is committed to helping your child grow academically and socially.  If you have any questions about the Honors program, please feel free to contact Beth Douma in the Welcome Office at 720-423-9695.
