Weekly Announcements

November 23-27:

  • Thanksgiving break will be November 25th through November 27th with a return to school on November 30th.
  • The Hill PTA has kicked off their only fundraiser of the year.  Information about our Dollar-A-Day campaign can be found on our website.  Additionally, students brought home yesterday a copy of the Student Directory and a flyer regarding the Dollar-A-Day program. 
  • The next round of benchmarks in reading, writing, and math are scheduled the for week of November 30th.
  • The next early release day will be Wednesday, December 9th.  School will end at 11:30 on that day.  More information to follow.
  • Winter break will be December 21-January 4 with a return to school on Tuesday, January 5th.

November 16-20:

From the Office:

  • Look for progress reports for the second nine weeks as they should be coming home this week or next.
  • Attention 8th graders and parents:  GW, East, TJ, West, and South will be presenting their programs on Thursday, November 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Hill's auditorium.  Come hear about the different academic programs, athletics, clubs, and other extracurricular offerings each of the schools has to offer.  Take the opportunity to have your questions answered by staff, students, and parents representing these schools.

November 9-13:

From the Office

  • There will be no school on Wednesday, November 11th in honor of Veteran 's Day
  • Report cards will be distributed through the math classes and students will be bringing them home by Monday, November 9th, if you were unable to pick them up at conferences
  • Brain Bowl practice, which is open to all 6th through 8th graders, will start Monday, November 9th after school from 2:40 to 3:45, in room 216. Arrange to be picked up at 3:45 as there are no buses. Contact Sue Hoopfer for more information.
  • The November newsletter will be coming home on November 12th.

Parents, we are asking for you to not drop your child off in the teacher parking lot.  Instead, drop off can be either to the south of the building on 4th Avenue near the parking lot or on 5th Avenue north of Hill.  It is becoming a dangerous situation as parents are in a hurry and there are students and staff members trying to enter the school. 

Don’t forget to set your clocks an hour back on Halloween, Saturday, October 31st.

Hill has teamed up with Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que.  Show your support on November 2nd, from 11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. at 7557 East 36th Ave.  Famous Dave’s will donate 15% of net sales for all receipts turned into the hostess. An EASY FUNdraiser, please help get the word out.

There will be no school on Wednesday, November 11th in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Attention 8th graders and parents:  several different high schools will come to Hill on Thursday, November 19th in the evening to give presentations about their schools.  More information to follow.


October 26-30:

There will be a fall school social from 1:15-2:30 tomorrow, October 23rd.  If you do not want your child to attend the social and to leave school early, please write a note and have him/her take it to the office in the morning to get a partial. Students without notes will not be permitted to leave school early.  Students who are struggling academically will be assigned to a study hall during this time.  In addition, students who have had behavior referrals or suspensions will not be able to attend the social.

Students will be allowed to wear appropriate costumes to school on Tuesday, October 27th.

There will be no school on October 28th, 29th, and 30th as it will be Fall Break.


October 19-23:

There is an early release day tomorrow Friday, October 16th at 11:30.  Lunch will be served for those students who want it. If your student normally takes a bus home, it will leave when school gets out. There will be no clubs or activities.  All students must leave campus at 11:30 as staff members will be involved in professional development.

Picture retakes are also tomorrow Friday, October 16th.  All students who were not photographed earlier in the year will have their picture taken on this day.  Money to purchase photos must be turned in at the time pictures are taken.  Retakes will be done if the original picture packet is returned.

September 14-September 18:

  • There will be no school for students on Friday, September 18th as it is an Assessment Day. Staff members will be busy scoring the first round of benchmarks students took this past week in reading, writing, and math.
  • Free after-school tutoring is being provided by Sylvan Learning Centers. Applications are available in the office and should be returned by Wednesday, September 16th. Any questions, call the office.
  • Look for progress reports that will be coming home this week. This is a good way to check to see how your child is doing in his or her classes.

September 7-September 11:

  • Back to School Night is tonight (September 3) from 6-8 p.m. Your child will give you a copy of his or her schedule today - please bring it with you this evening as you will follow that schedule.
  • The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) election will take place in the lobby tonight at Back to School Night. Plan to cast your ballot then.
  • There will be no school for students on Monday, September 7th as it is Labor Day.
  • Picture day will be on Thursday, September 10th. More information to follow.
  • Assessment Day will be on Friday, September 18th. There will be no school for students.

August 31-September 4:

Back to School Night will be Thursday, September 3rd from 6-8 p.m.  Your child will give you a copy of his or her schedule on Thursday - please bring it with you that evening as you will follow it.

The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) election will take place in the lobby on Thursday at Back to School Night.  Plan to cast your ballot then.  If unfamiliar with the CSC, it is policy board for the school comprised of four parent representatives, four faculty representatives, two staff representatives, and the principal.  Interested individuals are encouraged to attend the monthly CSC meetings, but have no voting privileges.  The primary focus of the CSC relates to the School Improvement Plan which addresses instructional goals and school climate.
