Continuation Information

Dear Parents,

Continuation is a celebration that culminates three years of middle school. For 8th grade students, the event serves as a closure to middle school, but also a transition into high school. The 2016-2017 Continuation ceremony is scheduled for May 23rd, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at George Washington High School.

In order to participate in the Continuation ceremony, students must meet or exceed the expectations outlined below:

  • ·         95% attendance for the entire semester
  • ·         2.5 Grade Point Average for the entire semester
  • ·         No in-school, or out-of-school suspensions for the entire semester

If a student is not meeting one or more of the above goals, they will be considered “off-track” and parents will be notified of their students’ off track status every three weeks.  If the student is off-track at the end of the semester, she/he will not be able to participate in continuation.

If a student is off-track for attendance, the student can attend one approved hour of after-school tutoring to redeem one attendance percentage point. There is no distinction between an absence that is excused or unexcused.  Extenuating circumstances will be considered on an individual basis.

If a student is off-track for grades, the student should arrange to get extra academic support from their teachers, City Year staff, or tutors from George Washington and East HS. Students can redeem GPA by attending tutoring from 3 pm to 4 pm. Each tutoring session you attend will increase your GPA by 0.1. For example, if you have a 2.3 GPA and attend 2 tutoring sessions, your adjusted GPA would be a 2.5. Teachers update grades each Friday.  We encourage you to email all of your students’ teachers if you have questions regarding grades.  Please visit our website for teachers’ email addresses.

If a student is off-track for behavior, the student can regain on-track status by completing approved community service.  One hour of community service will serve as the equivalent of one detention, one in-school suspension (ISS) or out-of-school suspension (OSS).

It is extremely important to remember that any student who is off track on Friday, May 19th will remain off track and will not participate in Hill’s Continuation ceremony on the 23rd.

At Hill, we believe that our students can meet these expectations and we will support each student throughout this semester to ensure that they achieve success.  If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Eno Ocansey, Director of Culture at 720-423-9767 or Ms. Tiffany Almon, Assistant Principal at 720-423-9741.
