Math

Open Up

It fosters mathematical literacy for students. Open Up’s signature mathematical language routines (MLRs) offer detailed guidance for developing students into mathematical thinkers. Facilitate and assess students’ ability to communicate mathematical thinking verbally, visually, and in writing. The topic-specific and activity-specific differentiation is groundbreaking. Whether it’s for below-benchmark students or accelerated learners, we provide content-specific resources within lessons, from warm-up to cool down. It fosters the 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussions.

Discussion-filled classrooms beget deeper learning. The curriculum materials encourage student communication and the development of problem-solving and reasoning skills. Open Up raises the bar for the integration of English Language Learner scaffolds in every lesson, with topic- and activity-specific guidance.

Science

Amplify Sciences Curriculum

Amplify Science blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers.Amplify Science for middle school has recently been rated all-green by EdReports.

Each unit of Amplify Science engages students in a relevant, real-world problem where they investigate scientific phenomena, engage in collaboration and discussion, and develop models or explanations in order to arrive at solutions.

Amplify Science was developed by the science education experts at UC Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science and the digital learning team at Amplify. As the Hall’s first curriculum designed to address the new science standards, Amplify Science reflects state-of-the-art practices in science teaching and learning.

Social Studies

National Geographic World Cultures and Geography Curriculum

National Geographic World Cultures and Geography Curriculum, combining authentic National Geographic exploration and media into a standards-based program creating a shared experience for all students. National Geographic World Cultures and Geography prepares students for an increasingly global future as you share The Experience. Students are immersed in real-life experiences with more than 30 National Geographic Explorers. Accessible, scaffolded content to support geographic discovery for every student. Active learning for active students with more than 200 Interactive Whiteboard lessons.

English Language Acquisition

The district-wide Parent Advisory Committee meets monthly to inform parents about ELA program services and provide parents with an opportunity to learn about issues pertinent to English language learners in Denver Public Schools as well as resources in the community.  We welcome all parents of English language learners to be involved in the District Parent Advisory Committee. Special Education

Hill has the only center program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) at the middle school level in the Denver Public Schools. It is a total communication program, using both spoken language and sign language to communicate. Students with a variety of hearing losses can receive support inside and outside the general education classroom. This center program is staffed with certified teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing and educational sign language interpreters.
