A Message from Principal Adams, Friday, August 14 – Un mensaje del Director Adams

Hello Skyhawk Families, 

I want to thank all of the families who are being so patient and offering grace to the office staff and leaders as we work to figure out this school year. As with any new school team coming together to find their way, the Hill team is working to tighten our communication systems to deliver the best customer service to you. I want you to know that my team and I are here for you each day, and we will continue to work on enhancing our services until our vision of excellence is achieved. This past Thursday, I worked with school leaders, and office supports to craft our commitments to you in terms of our communication policy. Here is what we commit to you: 

  • As the principal, I commit to communicating with families every Friday, which will be posted on the website (News section), Flyer App, social media sites, and via email using school messenger. If you are not receiving school messenger emails, please let us know by emailing Karla_Garcia@dpsk12.org or Lilly_Brown@dpsk12.org . 
  •  Office staff commits to responding to both calls and emails 24-48 hours after your first attempt. If this is breached, please email or call again. There are instances when calls or emails overlooked accidentally.  
  • Office staff commits to always include a greeting/salutation in emails and phone calls to demonstrate mutual respect. 
  • Office staff commits to leaving an out of office reply if they are away for personal reasons to let you know that there may be a delay in response and help you find an alternate person to call or email. 

Here are some commitments that we ask of our families:

  • Check for updated communication each Friday (website, social media, Flyer App, and school messenger email).
  • We respectfully request that families allow the 24-48 hour window to pass before calling or emailing again. 
  • We know that many of our families are anxious to receive quality and accurate communication, but we ask that you refrain from sharing information unless it is taken directly from the notification that the school has sent. We want to ensure that the information you receive is, without a doubt, correct.  
  • Lastly, please help me show mutual respect and grace to hard-working office staff. I see the level of work each day, and I want you to help me honor them by sharing a greeting/salutation when you email or call. 

Lilly Brown, our Director of Student and Family Engagement, is working on a resource that will help families navigate who to reach out to regarding a specific need at Hill. That resource will be available next week. 

I know that as we continue to partner, we will achieve our vision of excellence, but only together.

Annual Family Update: 

If you have not completed the AFU, please reach out to Jazmin Sandoval in the Office of Student Support by calling 720. 423. 9680. She can help you make arrangements to complete the forms in person. For those families who have not completed the AFU because you are unsure whether you want an in-person hybrid model or 100% Virtual, please know that you have until mid-September to make that choice. We ask that you prioritize completing the AFU so that we can plan our classrooms. 

Electives Form: 

The Elective Choice Form is closing this Sunday, August 16th. If you have not made your choice, please be sure to get that done quickly. Students who have NOT completed the AFU will be at risk of not getting their Elective options. 

Family Forum: 

Our next Family Form will be hosted on August 28th at 2 pm. We will not host on Friday on the 21st as originally scheduled because of the 7th and 8th grade Academy! We will return to the bi-weekly schedule on September 4th. Looking forward to seeing you on August 28th! 

Accelerated Assessments: 

We have completed all assessments with students who have signed up. Links for testing will be closed. Recommendation forms will remain available for 7th & 8th-grade math and Social Studies. Interviews for students who signed up for any Accelerated Assessment will take place next week, beginning Monday, August 17th. All families will receive their interview time from Tony Sandoval via email today, August 14th. This is the last step, and students will be notified of their placement by reviewing their schedules in Parent Portal. 

Upcoming Information: 

On Tuesday, August 18th, families can expect information from me about the remote school schedule, how to set students up for success, materials pick up, and other information regarding the launch of our school year. Don’t forget if you are new to Hill (from out of DPS) and do not have a Chromebook or need help with troubleshooting your current Chromebook, please complete this survey.

Hola familias de Skyhawk, 

Quiero agradecer a todas las familias que están siendo tan pacientes y ofreciendo gracia al personal de la oficina y a los líderes mientras trabajamos para resolver este año escolar. Al igual que con cualquier equipo nuevo de la escuela que se une para encontrar su camino, el equipo de Hill está trabajando para fortalecer nuestros sistemas de comunicación para brindarle el mejor servicio al cliente. Quiero que sepa que mi equipo y yo estamos aquí para usted todos los días, y continuaremos trabajando para mejorar nuestros servicios hasta lograr nuestra visión de excelencia. El jueves pasado, trabajé con líderes escolares y apoyos de oficina para elaborar nuestros compromisos con ustedes en términos de nuestra política de comunicación. Esto es lo que nos comprometemos con usted:

  • Como director, me comprometo a comunicarme con las familias todos los viernes, lo cual se publicará en el sitio web (sección de noticias), la aplicación Flyer, los sitios de redes sociales y por correo electrónico utilizando el mensajero escolar. Si no está recibiendo correos electrónicos de mensajería escolar, háganoslo saber enviando un correo electrónico a Karla_Garcia@dpsk12.org o Lilly_Brown@dpsk12.org. 
  • El personal de la oficina se compromete a responder tanto a las llamadas como a los correos electrónicos entre 24 y 48 horas después de su primer intento. Si esto se infringe, envíe un correo electrónico o llame de nuevo. Hay casos en que las llamadas o los correos electrónicos se pasan por alto accidentalmente.

    Aquí hay algunos compromisos que les pedimos a nuestras familias:

  • Verifique la comunicación actualizada cada viernes (sitio web, redes sociales, aplicación de Flyer y correo electrónico de mensajería escolar).
  • Solicitamos respetuosamente que las familias permitan que pase el período de 24 a 48 horas antes de llamar o enviar un correo electrónico nuevamente.
  • Sabemos que muchas de nuestras familias están ansiosas por recibir una comunicación precisa y de calidad, pero le pedimos que se abstenga de compartir información a menos que se tome directamente de la notificación que la escuela ha enviado. Queremos asegurarnos de que la información que recibe es, sin duda, correcta.
  • Por último, ayúdenme a mostrar respeto mutuo y gracia al personal de la oficina. Veo el nivel de trabajo todos los días, y quiero que me ayuden a honrarlos compartiendo un saludo cordial cuando envíe un correo electrónico o llame. 

    Lilly Brown, nuestra Directora de Participación de Estudiantes y Familias, está trabajando en un recurso que ayudará a las familias a encontrar con quién comunicarse con respecto a una necesidad específica en Hill. Ese recurso estará disponible la próxima semana.

Actualización anual de la familia: 
Si no ha completado el AFU, comuníquese con Jazmín Sandoval en la Oficina de Apoyo Estudiantil llamando al 720.423.9680. Ella puede ayudarlo a hacer los arreglos necesarios para completar los formularios en persona. Para aquellas familias que no completaron el AFU porque no están seguros de si quieren un modelo híbrido en persona o 100% virtual, deben saber que tienen hasta mediados de septiembre para tomar esa decisión. Le pedimos que dé prioridad a completar la AFU para que podamos planificar nuestras aulas. 

Formulario de electivas:

El formulario de clases electivas se cierra este domingo 16 de agosto. Si no ha hecho su elección, asegúrese de hacerlo rápidamente. Los estudiantes que NO hayan completado la AFU estarán en riesgo de no obtener sus opciones electivas. 

Foro familiar: 
Nuestro próximo formulario familiar se llevará a cabo el 28 de agosto a las 2 pm. ¡No organizaremos el viernes 21 como estaba programado originalmente debido a la Academia de 7º y 8º grado! Regresaremos al horario quincenal el 4 de septiembre. ¡Esperamos verte el 28 de agosto! 

Evaluaciones aceleradas: 
Hemos completado todas las evaluaciones con los estudiantes que se han inscrito. Se cerrarán los enlaces para las pruebas. Los formularios de recomendación permanecerán disponibles para matemáticas y estudios sociales de séptimo y octavo grado. Las entrevistas para los estudiantes que se inscribieron para cualquier Evaluación Acelerada se llevarán a cabo la próxima semana, a partir del lunes 17 de agosto. Todas las familias recibirán la hora de la entrevista de Tony Sandoval por correo electrónico hoy, 14 de agosto. Este es el último paso, y los estudiantes serán notificados de su ubicación revisando sus horarios en el Portal de Padres. 

Próxima información: 
El martes 18 de agosto, las familias pueden esperar información mía sobre el horario de la escuela remota, cómo preparar a los estudiantes para el éxito, recoger materiales y otra información sobre el inicio de nuestro año escolar. No olvide que si es nuevo en Hill (fuera de DPS) y no tiene una Chromebook o necesita ayuda para solucionar problemas de su Chromebook actual, complete esta encuesta.
